STOP WAITING TO FEEL READY—JUST START

Here’s the truth: You will never feel 100% ready to chase your goals, make a big change, or step into the best version of yourself. If you’re waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect plan, or the perfect mindset—you might be waiting forever.

I used to fall into this trap, too. Whether it was restarting my crochet business, launching Better Everyday, or even homeschooling my kids, I kept thinking, “I’ll start when I have more time, more energy, more confidence.” Spoiler alert: That perfect moment never came.

The people who actually make progress? They start before they feel ready. They take messy action. They figure it out as they go. And guess what? You can too.

1. STOP OVERTHINKING AND START DOING

Overthinking is just fear dressed up in logic. I’ve been there—spiraling with “what-ifs” instead of taking action. But I’ve learned that clarity comes from doing, not just thinking.

What helped me?

When I wanted to relaunch my crochet business, I stopped debating over logos and pricing and just started making things again. The momentum built from there.

Try this: Instead of thinking about everything that could go wrong, ask yourself, “What’s the next tiny step I can take right now?” Then do it.

2. REWRITE YOUR DEFINITION OF “READY”

I used to think I had to have everything figured out before I started homeschooling my kids. The reality? I just needed to take that first step, trust that I’d learn along the way, and adjust as needed.

What helped me?

I focused on creating one lesson at a time instead of stressing over an entire year’s curriculum. The more I did, the more confident I became.

Try this: The next time you catch yourself saying, “I’ll do it when I’m ready,” replace it with, “I’ll do it now and learn along the way.”

3. MAKE PEACE WITH IMPERFECT ACTION

Newsflash: Your first attempt at anything probably won’t be perfect. And that’s okay. I’ve had my fair share of messy launches and learning curves, from homeschooling to growing Better Everyday. But if I had waited for perfection, I’d still be stuck at square one.

What helped me?

Giving myself permission to try and tweak. When I first started creating Instagram content, I had no idea what would resonate. But by testing and learning, I got better.

Try this: Set a timer for 10 minutes and just start—whether it’s writing, working out, reaching out to someone, or taking that first step.

4. TRUST THAT YOU’LL FIGURE IT OUT

When I decided to start a vending machine business, I had zero experience. But instead of letting that stop me, I reminded myself that everything is figureoutable. I researched, took small steps, and trusted that I’d learn along the way.

What helped me?

Realizing that every successful person once started from scratch, too. No one is born knowing how to do everything—they just commit to figuring it out.

Try this: Look back at something you once felt unqualified for but did anyway. Proof that you can handle more than you think.

5. ASK YOURSELF: “WHAT IF IT WORKS?”

Your brain loves to focus on everything that could go wrong. I used to do this all the time—worrying about failure instead of imagining success. But one simple mindset shift changed everything.

What helped me?

Flipping the script. Instead of “What if I fail?” I started asking, “What if it works?” What if my crochet business thrives? What if Better Everyday inspires people? What if I actually succeed? That simple shift made taking action feel exciting instead of terrifying.

Try this: Write down one positive outcome that could come from starting today.

FINAL THOUGHTS (A.K.A. YOUR PUSH TO START)

You don’t need more time. You don’t need more confidence. You don’t need to feel ready. You just need to start.

And when you do? You’ll realize you were always capable.
